The Carnival festivities in the Andalusian city of Cádiz are some of the best-known in the world, and the chirigotas are witty and satiric groups that sing their original compositions about politics, topics in the news, and everyday circumstances, during the two-week celebration. They sing in the streets and squares, in parades, at improvised venues like outdoor staircases and portals, and in established open-air platforms set up by the city’s carnival clubs.
