Unofficial data estimate that the current population of Canaima National Park is about 12,000 inhabitants, most of them belonging to the Pemón tribe. They live in scattered communities of 40-100 people mostly along the rivers. Many maintain a traditional agriculture, with hunter-gathering and trading; some today also live on mining and tourism. Most transport within the Park happens by light plane or by foot and canoe.
