The World Academy for the Future of Women is a brave and spirited leadership program that started in 2009 at SIAS International University in Xingzheng, China. It expanded to Kathmandu, Nepal in 2016, and plans for expansion are in the works for Peru, India, and Bangladesh. The WAFW focuses on developing young women and men for leadership roles that will address and help achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals of Quality Education, Gender Equality, Partnership for the Goals, Good Health and Well Being, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Responsible Consumption and Production, Life on Land, and Decent Work and Economic Growth.
GSP was a facilitator for 10 weeks in China and Nepal, as part of the project Art as a Bridge to Self Expression – Give Voice to Women Through the Arts, sponsored by the WAFW through a United States Cultural Grant. I am enormously grateful for the work I was able to do, that of empowering the young men and women who attended the Academy during my tenure. Not only I witnessed their tremendous growth both as a group and as individuals, I also experienced far-reaching, unexpected personal growth.
Engaging with the WAFW was an honor and a privilege for me, and I am confident it will continue to be. It was also great, great fun! I got to speak about my favorite topics –photography, anthropology, cultures, I interacted with brilliant scholars and administrators ... I made people smile, I got to visit some of the world’s most amazing sites, and, above all, I got to make friends with some of the world’s smartest people –especially, very especially, my cherished and beloved students.

La Academia Mundial para el Futuro de las Mujeres - WAFW es un valiente programa de liderazgo que comenzó en 2009 en la Universidad Internacional SIAS en Xingzheng, China. Se expandió a Katmandú, Nepal en 2016, y se están concertando planes de expansión en Perú, India y Bangladesh. La WAFW se enfoca en desarrollar a mujeres y hombres jóvenes para roles de liderazgo que abordarán y ayudarán a alcanzar los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible de las Naciones Unidas, de Educación de Calidad, Igualdad de Género, Alianza para los Objetivos, Buena Salud y Bienestar, Ciudades y Comunidades Sostenibles, Consumo y Producción Responsable, Vida en Tierra y Trabajo Decente, y Crecimiento Económico.
GSP fue facilitadora de la WAFW durante 10 semanas en China y Nepal, como parte del proyecto El Arte Como un Puente Para la Auto-Expresión: Dar Voz a las Mujeres a Través de las Artes, patrocinado por la WAFW a través de una Subvención Cultural de los Estados Unidos. Estoy enormemente agradecida por el trabajo que pude hacer, el de empoderar a los hombres y mujeres jóvenes que asistieron a la Academia durante mi estadía. No solo fui testigo de su tremendo crecimiento como grupal e individual, también experimenté un crecimiento personal de muy largo alcance.
Formar parte del equipo WAFW fue un honor y un privilegio, pero también fue genial, ¡muy divertido! Hablé sobre mis temas favoritos -fotografía, antropología, culturas, conocí a académicos y administradores brillantes... Hice sonreír a la gente, pude visitar algunos de los sitios más increíbles del mundo y, sobre todo, pude hacer amistad con algunas de las personas más inteligentes del mundo- especialmente, muy especialmente, mis queridos, muy queridas estudiantes.
